Jeff Newell is the Director for Distance Education at the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) and also is the Director of Illinois Community Colleges Online (ILCCO). At ICCB Mr. Newell is involved with distance education for the community college systesm, assessing the technology capabilities of Illinois community colleges and adult education providers, promoting effective use of technology in instruction, the development and implementation of grant programs to serve the colleges, and leadership in statewide organizations for distance learning and faculty development. As the ILCCO Director, Mr. Newell works with a consortium of colleges to provide leadership for online learning in Illinois, faculty and professional development, and course and program sharing between the colleges.
Prior to ICCB, Mr. Newell was the Associate Director for Television at the Center for the Application of Information Technology (CAIT) at Western Illinois University and a Television Director/Producer at the Biomedical Communications division of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Mr Newell directed and produced a variety of computer-based, tape-based and broadcast continuing education programs in the areas of educational methodologies, instructional technology, adult education, K-12 education, and medical and health education.
Mr. Newell is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Illinois at Springfield teaching educational technology courses for K-12 faculty in the online Master in Teacher Leadership program. Courses include Foundations for Technology in the Curriculum, Technology in the Curriculum, and Technology Strategies for Teachers.
Mr. Newell holds a MS in Instructional Technology & Telecommunications from Western Illinois University and a BA in Communication from the University of Illinois at Springfield.
