Grading Policy

Final grades will be determined in the following manner:

Weekly Discussions 40%
Paper One 25%
Paper Two 35%

Each week's discussion is worth 2.5% of the total course grade (there are fifteen weeks in the semester).  In addition, participation in the General Discussion forum in Blackboard over the entire semester that is equivalent to one of the weekly discussion assignments.  These sixteen discussion assignments, therefore, contribute 40% of the final course grade (16 x 2.5% = 40%).  Please refer to the criteria for grading the weekly discussion assignments.  Grades for the weekly discussion assignments will be posted to the gradebook in Blackboard no later than one week after the discussion concludes.

Paper One is worth 25% of the final course grade.  Please refer to the criteria and the grading rubric for the Paper One assignment.

Paper Two is worth 35% of the final course grade.  Please refer to the criteria and the grading rubric for the Paper Two assignment.

There also will be extra credit assignments from time-to-time.  These will be spontaneous and un-planned.  These assignments will be made either in postings in the discussion forums in Blackboard or else in other communications from Prof. Oakley (such as the weekly podcasts).
